Two flows, never mixed
Vector has two flows that intentionally stay separate. The contact flow is always a private 1:1. The room flow is always multi-peer. The app never collapses the two.
You share your contact — by QR, short code, or invite link. The other side sees you as a contact in their list. From that moment, messages flow directly between the two devices, end-to-end encrypted. It is never a room. Nobody else can be pulled into this thread.
You create a room and share or print its code. Anyone who scans the code joins that room and appears inside it with everyone else. Rooms are multi-peer by design — meant for teams, events, shared spaces. They live separately from your private contacts.
